UMPIRES TRAINING - HOW TO BECOME A LACROSSE UMPIRE
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Women's lacrosse umpire training and
certification in Florida is conducted by US Lacrosse (USL).
In South Florida, Kathy Reinmund is
responsible for women's lacrosse umpire certification. Kathy has
several instructors under her responsibility. Charity Cox is one
such instructor.
In order to become USL certified you must
attend a class and shadow fellow certified umpires. After that you will
be given an exam. Upon passing both the exam and field training
you will become certified. This will allow you to umpire in any USL
league including youth and high school club. You will be required
to complete the USL Umpire membership application and deliver to Kathy
along with payment. She signs off on the registration. Having a USL
certification allows you to umpire games in any state, subject to being
assigned games by your specific league Umpire Assignor.
FHSAA high school lacrosse teams use FHSAA
certified umpires. The training format is the similar and conducted by
Florida Lacrosse Officials Association (FLOA), the FHSAA sanctioning
body for umpires. Kathy is the local FLOA umpire instructor.
FHSAA games can only be officiated by a FLOA
certified lacrosse
umpire. USL games can only be officiated by USL umpires.
Each state high school association has their own policy on certifying
umpires for their sanctioned games.
NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, NCCAA collegiate games
require their own certification separate from USL.
MEN'S LACROSSE
Similar to the above but with different
instructors.
